A Christmas tree outing in Washington might mean walking through fir rows in the Puget Sound lowlands, exploring a foothill farm near the Cascades, or choosing a tree in the Spokane area. Western Washington is an established growing region: Washington State University describes the Pacific Northwest’s Christmas tree industry. The farms checked below cover several Puget Sound counties, the Skagit Valley, southwest Washington and the Spokane area. Coverage in central Washington and on the outer Olympic Peninsula is limited.
Noble fir and Douglas-fir are familiar Northwest choices. Grand fir, Nordmann fir and Turkish fir also appear at many of the checked farms. WSU’s forest specialist explains the qualities of western Washington’s native Christmas tree species. Some growers leave trees naturally shaped; others trim them into a fuller outline. At a choose-and-cut farm, you may cut the tree yourself or have staff do the cutting.
Many farms open around Thanksgiving, although some start earlier in November. Weekend schedules are common, and reservations or appointments are required at some locations.
Measure your room first, allowing room for the stand and topper. Bring a measuring tape, gloves and waterproof boots, and check the farm’s latest selling days before setting off.
Use your location or a ZIP code. Nothing is stored.
Each tree is a farm, placed by its ZIP code, so it shows the area rather than the gate. Select one to jump to it.
