Choosing a real Christmas tree in Oregon often means a walk through rows of firs, with a saw in hand and damp boots by the time you reach the car. The main growing area is western Oregon, particularly the Willamette Valley and nearby foothills. Oregon State University Extension identifies Clackamas, Marion and Polk counties as major centres of Christmas tree production. The checked farms below are concentrated in northwestern Oregon and the northern and central Willamette Valley; coverage farther south and east is limited.
Noble fir and Douglas-fir are familiar choices here. Grand fir and Nordmann fir also appear regularly in the farms checked for this page, with Turkish fir at some growers. OSU Extension explains how these species fit Oregon’s growing conditions. Some farms offer naturally shaped trees as well as closely trimmed ones, and some sell trees already cut by their own grower.
Many farms begin selling around Thanksgiving, while a few open earlier in November. Weekend-only schedules are common, and cutting fields may have a shorter season than pre-cut sales.
Measure your room first, leaving space for the stand and topper. Bring gloves, a measuring tape and waterproof boots, and check whether you need a reservation or a supplied saw before leaving home.
