Christmas tree farms in Illinois

16 farms · checked October 4, 2026

An Illinois Christmas tree outing can mean a walk through northern fir fields, a stop near the Fox Valley, or a country drive toward the Metro East. This guide includes farms in northern, central and southwestern Illinois, with thinner coverage in the far south, west and around Peoria. White pine, Scotch pine and Canaan fir appear in local fields, while some growers also offer Fraser fir or spruce. Ask about the species and height you want before heading out.

Many farms begin cutting around Thanksgiving, though some open earlier and others welcome visitors on only a few weekends. Confirm tickets, appointments, pet rules and field availability, especially later in December.

Measure both ceiling height and the space around your stand, allowing room for the topper. Wear boots, warm layers and gloves, and check whether saws are supplied. Plan how you’ll secure and protect the tree for the ride home, then keep its stand supplied with water. The University of Illinois Extension’s tree-selection guide has practical farm-visit advice. Use our Christmas tree planner to organize measurements and your visit before you leave.
